A quiet Sunday morning in Kailua turned frightening when a masked man walked into a local Texaco gas station armed with a cleaver-style knife — and walked out with cash in hand.
It happened around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday when Honolulu Police Department officers rushed to the Texaco station in Kailua after reports of a robbery in progress.
According to police, the suspect — dressed in a black ski mask and black hoodie — stormed into the store and made a beeline straight for the front counter. There, a 22-year-old woman was working her shift alone. He raised the cleaver, demanded money, and helped himself to the cash right out of the register.
Then, in a moment that left witnesses stunned, he didn’t run — he skated away. The suspect fled the scene on a skateboard, disappearing before officers could arrive.
The young cashier, thankfully, was not physically hurt. But the fear of staring down a blade at work is something no one should ever have to experience.
As of now, no arrests have been made. The Honolulu Police Department is actively investigating the case and urging anyone who may have seen something — or knows something — to come forward immediately.
