A Texas man dialed 911 to report a murder — but police say he was no innocent bystander. He allegedly helped carry it out.
Sandra Ramos, 43, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of Victor Nunez, whose dismembered body was found inside her Midland, Texas home. She is now charged with murder.
The case took a shocking twist when the man who initially contacted police — 31-year-old Victor Esparza — was himself arrested and charged with the same crime after a second witness came forward.
What police say happened
According to an arrest affidavit, Ramos picked up Esparza and Nunez from a hotel late Sunday night and brought them to her home, where multiple people were reportedly using methamphetamine.
A dispute over money reportedly sparked what followed. Investigators say Nunez was beaten with a baseball bat, then strangled and stabbed until he died. Esparza and Ramos are both accused of taking part in the killing.
Afterward, Ramos allegedly forced Esparza at gunpoint to help dismember Nunez’s body with a hacksaw and seal the remains inside a blue, wheeled storage tote — with an air conditioner blowing on it to mask the smell.
The discovery
Property owners had already noticed suspicious activity — including freshly dug trenches behind Ramos’ trailer. When deputies returned Tuesday with permission to search, they found the storage bin and made the grim discovery.
