Man Injured in Leg After Exchange of Gunfire in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion Neighborhood

PHILADELPHIA — A 20-year-old man was hospitalized Wednesday night after being struck in the leg during an exchange of gunfire in Philadelphia’s Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, police said.

The shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m. on the 3000 block of West Susquehanna Avenue.

Responding officers found the victim conscious and suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators recovered more than 30 spent shell casings from the scene, indicating a significant exchange of gunfire between two groups.

According to police, two masked individuals — one riding a scooter and the other an electric bicycle — approached the area and opened fire toward a group that included the victim. Members of that group reportedly returned fire.

Authorities said the individuals who remained at the scene have been cooperating with investigators and voluntarily turned over their firearms.

Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby security cameras as they work to identify those involved and determine what led to the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been announced.
