Menifee Police Officer, Civilian Hospitalized After Multi-Vehicle Crash at Major Intersection

Menifee, California – A Menifee Police Department officer and a civilian driver were hospitalized Wednesday afternoon following a multi-car collision at one of the city’s busiest intersections. Authorities confirmed the crash occurred while the officer was responding to an emergency call for service.

The incident happened shortly before 2:10 p.m. at the intersection of McCall Road and Menifee Road, a heavily traveled area known for significant daytime traffic. According to officials, the on-duty officer was en route to a reported medical aid call when the patrol vehicle entered the intersection and collided with two other vehicles.

Crash Occurred During Emergency Response

Police stated that the officer was actively responding to a call when the crash took place. Details about whether emergency lights or sirens were activated have not been released. The collision involved three vehicles in total, resulting in visible damage and prompting a rapid emergency response to the scene.

Authorities confirmed that both the officer and the driver of one of the other involved vehicles were transported to a nearby hospital. Officials emphasized that the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution” to ensure both individuals received a full medical evaluation.

No information has been released regarding the severity of their injuries, and officials have not identified those involved. The condition of occupants in the third vehicle has not been publicly disclosed.

Investigation Underway

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials confirmed that the inquiry is being handled by the California Highway Patrol’s Temecula Office to ensure an independent review of the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Investigators are expected to examine factors such as traffic signal timing, vehicle speeds, right-of-way conditions, and whether standard emergency response protocols were followed. Authorities have not indicated whether impairment, mechanical failure, or other external factors may have contributed to the incident.

Multi-vehicle collisions at high-traffic intersections often require detailed reconstruction efforts, including witness statements, dash camera footage, and physical evidence from the scene.

Road Closures and Traffic Impact

In the immediate aftermath of the crash, police closed the intersection of McCall Road and Menifee Road. Officials advised that the area could remain shut down for several hours as investigators processed the scene and crews worked to clear damaged vehicles.

Additional road closures were also implemented to manage congestion and maintain safety. Coastline Avenue and Heritage Lake Drive to Menifee Road were temporarily blocked, along with W. Heritage Lake Drive and Junipero Road at McCall Road.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while authorities conducted their investigation.

Ongoing Updates Expected

Police have indicated that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. For now, officials are focusing on the investigation and ensuring the well-being of those involved.

The crash serves as a reminder of the risks faced by first responders during emergency calls and highlights the importance of caution for all drivers approaching intersections, especially when emergency vehicles may be present.
