Battle Creek, Michigan — A disturbing domestic incident in Battle Creek has left one man dead and his wife facing serious criminal charges, after authorities say she admitted to shooting him multiple times inside their home.
According to the Battle Creek Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting around 4:30 p.m. at a residence located in the 100 block of South Ridgeway Drive. The home sits roughly 120 miles west of Detroit.
When first responders arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Emergency personnel attempted lifesaving efforts, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified as Alan Graham.
Outside the residence, officers encountered Andrea Graham, 31, who directed them inside. Police say she was taken into custody shortly after and transported to the Calhoun County Jail as the investigation began.
What Investigators Found at the Scene
Authorities later revealed that the shooting occurred in a basement hallway of the home. Investigators recovered a 9 mm pistol along with multiple shell casings scattered across different areas, suggesting movement during the incident. Broken glass from a picture frame was also found on the victim’s body.
Police reports indicate that Andrea Graham allegedly told officers she shot her husband several times, stating she wanted to ensure he was “out of his misery” and would not “suffer slowly.”
Conflicting Claims and Investigation Details
During questioning, Graham claimed she acted in self-defense, telling authorities that her husband had been strangling her at the time of the shooting. However, investigators reported that they did not observe physical injuries consistent with that claim and said the available evidence did not support her account.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to piece together the sequence of events inside the home.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Andrea Graham has been charged with open murder along with a felony firearm offense. She appeared in court and entered a not guilty plea. Her attorney described her as a stay-at-home mother of two with no prior felony record.
She is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to return to court on April 22 for a probable cause conference.
Ongoing Case
Officials have not released additional details about what may have led to the fatal encounter. The incident has raised serious questions as investigators continue examining evidence and statements from those involved.
The case remains ongoing, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
