Midnight Ambush in Chicago: 19-Year-Old Killed, Another Fighting for Life in Back of the Yards Shooting

A quiet early morning in Chicago turned deadly when gunfire erupted in the city’s South Side, leaving one young man dead and another critically injured.

The shooting unfolded around 12:44 a.m. in the 5000 block of South Justine Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

According to authorities, two men — ages 19 and 20 — were sitting inside a parked car when a dark-colored sedan pulled up nearby. Moments later, two individuals stepped out of the vehicle, drew firearms, and opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene.

The 19-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old man was rushed for medical treatment and remains in critical condition.

As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made. Detectives from the Wentworth Area are actively investigating the case as the community grapples with yet another act of overnight violence.

Residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots, adding to growing concerns about safety during late-night hours. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to identify the suspects responsible.

The investigation remains ongoing.
