Milwaukee Drivers Beware — Dangerous Snow Bursts Dropping Visibility to 1 Mile This Monday

Drivers across southeast Wisconsin should prepare for rapidly changing and potentially dangerous road conditions Monday afternoon and evening, as brief but intense snow bursts move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service office in Milwaukee/Sullivan, scattered snow showers are expected to develop after 2 p.m., with the most impactful period between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. These fast-moving snow bursts may significantly reduce visibility to around one mile or less, especially during heavier pockets.

Cities likely to be affected include Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Sheboygan, and Fond du Lac. Major routes such as Interstate 94, Interstate 43, and Highway 41 could see sudden drops in visibility, making travel unpredictable during peak commute hours.

The risk increases further after sunset. As temperatures fall into the lower 20s overnight, any moisture left on roads may freeze quickly. This creates hazardous icy patches, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces.

Officials are urging residents to drive cautiously—reduce speed, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking during snow bursts. Even brief whiteout conditions can lead to accidents if drivers are unprepared.

While conditions are expected to improve overnight, icy spots may persist into early Tuesday morning. Additional weather advisories could be issued if snow activity becomes more widespread.
