Minnesota State Trooper Hospitalized After Stolen Car Runs Stop Sign and T-Bones Squad Car

A Minnesota state trooper is recovering in the hospital after a stolen car slammed into their squad car late Friday night in Minneapolis.

What Happened

Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, a Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy spotted a stolen Hyundai sedan in St. Paul’s Highland Park neighborhood and attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled toward Minneapolis.

The deputy ended the chase after losing sight of the vehicle.

Minutes later, the stolen Hyundai was driving recklessly through Minneapolis. The driver ran a stop sign near West 46th Street and Aldrich Avenue South — directly into a Minnesota State Patrol squad car.

Trooper’s Condition

The trooper was pulled from the damaged squad car and rushed to a nearby hospital with significant injuries, according to officials.

The Driver — A Repeat Offender

The driver, a 19-year-old, fled the crash scene on foot but was later taken into custody. According to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, he has:

  • Two prior arrests for fleeing police
  • Was involved in a separate pursuit just the night before, where the same car swerved at emergency vehicles

Passengers Also Hurt

The two passengers inside the stolen Hyundai also suffered significant injuries in the crash.

Nearby Home Damaged

The force of the crash was so severe that the squad car slammed into a nearby resident’s house, creating a hole beneath his porch.

Homeowner Tom Ambresch told local media he had just gotten into bed when the crash happened.

“I thought we were being attacked,” he said. “I didn’t know it was a state trooper until I came outside and saw the side of the vehicle.”

Ambresch said he is now concerned about whether his home could collapse due to the severity of the structural damage.

Three people were inside a stolen car. A trooper is now in the hospital. And a family’s home may be unsafe — full details and updates at thecmeaglet.com
