A quiet neighborhood in Puyallup was shaken by sudden violence on the morning of April 2, when a domestic dispute escalated into a deadly shooting involving multiple people.
Police say a 47-year-old man allegedly opened fire on two adult women, believed to be his relatives, following a heated argument that moved outside the home. The confrontation quickly turned tragic when one of the women, 23-year-old Christiannel Lyle Macapagal Maningat, was fatally shot at the scene. The second victim was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
As gunfire rang out, a nearby resident stepped in. According to authorities, the neighbor, who had been inside at the time, came outside and shot the suspect, killing him. Officials say the individual is cooperating with investigators.
Witnesses described a chaotic and distressing scene. Some neighbors rushed to help before emergency responders arrived, attempting to assist the victims amid the confusion and fear.
Police emphasized that the incident remains under active investigation. Authorities are carefully reviewing whether the neighbor’s use of deadly force was legally justified under Washington law, which allows such action only when there is an immediate threat of serious harm or death.
Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and examine evidence to understand what led to the dispute. For now, the community is left grappling with shock and grief as the victims’ family faces an unimaginable loss.
