NYC Man Killed, 6 Injured in Targeted Shooting at Chick-fil-A Restaurant in New Jersey

A 23-year-old man from New York City has been identified as the victim of a deadly shooting that took place inside a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Union Township, New Jersey, over the weekend. Authorities confirmed that Malek Shepherd was fatally shot on Saturday night when a gunman opened fire inside the busy restaurant.

According to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Shepherd was pronounced dead at the scene. Six other individuals who were injured during the incident have since been treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities have not yet been released.

Investigators believe the attack was not random, suggesting that the shooter may have had a specific target. Surveillance and dashcam footage from the parking lot reportedly show a masked individual running out of the restaurant holding a handgun. Moments later, multiple people are seen fleeing, while a light-colored sedan speeds away from the scene.

Authorities have announced a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. Police are actively pursuing leads and urging the public to come forward with any details that may assist in the investigation.

Union Township Mayor Patricia Guerra-Frazier expressed concern over the incident, calling it a tragic reminder of ongoing safety challenges. She emphasized unity and community support during this difficult time.
