She Left Her Disabled 8-Year-Old Alone for Days With Nothing But Birthday Cake — Then Flew to Honduras

When Fort Bend County deputies got an unusual call for food in November 2025, they had no idea what was waiting on the other side of that front door. An 8-year-old girl — alone, hungry, and forgotten — had picked up the phone herself and called for help.

The child had been home by herself for two full days. Her mother, Phillipi Angela Walker, was not stuck at work or caught in an emergency. She had left the country entirely — traveling to Honduras and leaving her disabled daughter behind with no caregiver, no food, and no plan.

What investigators found inside the home painted a devastating picture. The girl, who reportedly has a mental deficiency that may prevent her from fully understanding her surroundings, had been surviving on birthday cake. Detectives later told local news that had the child not made that call, she may not have been found for days more.

“If the juvenile had not made the call for food to the Sheriff’s Office, she would have not been discovered for more days.” — Probable Cause Affidavit.

Three days later, on November 24, Walker’s home was already under police surveillance in connection with the first incident. Authorities say Walker left the child alone again — this time to work a 9-hour overnight shift at the Houston Veterans Affairs Hospital, clocking in from 3:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

When officers pulled Walker over at a traffic stop, she claimed she had asked her grandfather to check on the child. But when directly asked whether anyone was home, Walker refused to answer. Deputies didn’t wait — they went straight to the house.

Inside, they found the girl alone once again. Also discovered: three large knives within easy reach of a child who, due to her condition, may not have understood the danger they posed. Walker was taken into custody on the spot.

Perhaps the most disturbing detail of all — Walker was not even legally supposed to have custody of the girl at the time. A prior CPS plan had already required the child to be placed with another family member following an earlier incident.

Where the Case Stands

Walker now faces two felony counts of child abandonment and endangerment. She is not currently listed as an inmate in Fort Bend County. Her next court hearing is scheduled for June 29. Meanwhile, the little girl who had to call the police just to get food is finally somewhere safe.

She survived two days alone on birthday cake and had the courage to dial for help herself. At 8 years old, this little girl saved her own life — because the adult responsible for protecting it had already walked away.
