Shocking NYC Subway Attack: Man Pushes 83-Year-Old and 30-Year-Old Onto Manhattan Train Tracks — Suspect Still on the Run

A terrifying and seemingly random attack in Manhattan has left New York City subway riders shaken after a man allegedly pushed two innocent commuters — including an 83-year-old — onto active train tracks.

The disturbing incident unfolded around 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the busy Lexington Avenue–63rd Street station, serving the southbound F and Q lines.

What Happened?

According to investigators, a 30-year-old man was standing on the platform when an unknown individual suddenly approached him from behind and shoved him onto the tracks without warning.

Moments later, the same suspect allegedly targeted an 83-year-old man nearby — pushing him off the platform as well.

Both victims fell onto the tracks as horrified commuters looked on.

Narrow Escape From Tragedy

In what authorities are calling a miracle, neither victim was struck by an oncoming train.

Bystanders quickly rushed into action, pulling both men back onto the platform before a train entered the station.

The elderly victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The younger man, identified as John Rodriguez, suffered less severe injuries.

Rodriguez later described the ordeal as one of the most frightening moments of his life. While trapped on the tracks, he recorded video as he waited for help — fearing a train could arrive at any second.

“I was just praying no train was coming,” he said, expressing gratitude to the strangers who saved him.

Suspect Still At Large

Authorities have released photos of the man believed to be responsible. The attack appears to have been random, heightening fears among subway riders across the city.

As of Monday evening, the suspect had not been apprehended.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

Growing Safety Concerns

The incident has reignited concerns about subway safety, especially after a series of high-profile attacks in recent years. For daily commuters, the idea of being pushed onto the tracks without warning represents one of the system’s most terrifying scenarios.

While quick-thinking Good Samaritans prevented what could have been a deadly outcome, the search for the suspect continues — and many riders are left asking how something like this could happen in broad daylight.

Authorities are asking the public to remain alert and report any information that could help bring the suspect into custody.
