A chaotic shooting unfolded in Harlem on Friday evening, leaving a suspected gunman injured and another victim seriously hurt after gunfire erupted in a busy intersection. The incident, which also involved New York Police Department officers and a second unidentified shooter, is now under active investigation.
According to the New York Police Department, the shooting occurred just before 6:30 p.m. near West 125th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, an area typically filled with pedestrians and local businesses.
What Happened
Police say 32-year-old Randy Negron approached a 22-year-old man who was sitting outside a convenience store and opened fire at close range. The victim was struck multiple times, triggering panic in the area.
At that moment, two plainclothes NYPD officers were driving nearby and witnessed the attack. They immediately stopped, and one officer began chasing Negron as he ran down Amsterdam Avenue.
During the pursuit, the situation escalated further. Investigators say a second individual suddenly entered the intersection and fired shots at Negron before fleeing the scene. At nearly the same time, the pursuing officer also discharged his weapon.
Authorities confirmed that Negron was hit by gunfire, but it remains unclear whether the bullet came from the officer or the second shooter.
Victims and Condition
Officers quickly provided aid to both Negron and the original victim. Both were transported to a nearby hospital.

During the exchange of gunfire, several bullets struck the window of a nearby urgent care facility. Fortunately, no patients or staff inside were injured.
Police noted that the officers involved were not wearing body cameras at the time, as they were heading to a meal break when the incident occurred. However, the event was captured on surrounding surveillance systems, which are expected to play a key role in the investigation.
Suspect’s Criminal Background
Authorities revealed that Negron was already on parole at the time of the shooting. He had previously been convicted of attempted murder after firing into a group of people in 2015.
He was released from prison in June 2025 and remains on parole until August 2029. Police records indicate he has 11 prior arrests, including multiple violent felony charges.
