A routine traffic stop in Dougherty County on Monday resulted in multiple felony drug trafficking arrests after deputies discovered firearms and a large quantity of marijuana inside a vehicle.
According to the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a white Buick on March 9 in the 700 block of Slappy Boulevard due to suspected illegal window tint and failure to use a turn signal. During the stop, deputies reported detecting a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, which led to a search.
Authorities said the search uncovered two handguns — a .40-caliber Glock 27 and a 9mm Taurus G2 — along with 456 grams of marijuana. Investigators also found multiple small plastic baggies, a digital scale and $861 in cash, items commonly associated with drug distribution.
All occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody. Officials did not disclose the exact number of individuals arrested.
The suspects face charges including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. They are currently being held at the Dougherty County Jail as the investigation continues.
