Atlanta’s food scene is getting national recognition — and two local restaurants are now in the running for one of America’s most prestigious culinary honors.
The Big News
Two Atlanta restaurants have been named finalists for the 2026 James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards, widely considered the “Oscars of the culinary world.”
Restaurant 1: Aria — Buckhead
Aria is an upscale restaurant in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood, focused on modern American cooking with seasonal ingredients. Founded in 2000 by chef Gerry Klaskala, the restaurant is known for menus that change daily based on the freshest available ingredients. It continues to set the standard for fine dining in Atlanta.
Restaurant 2: Mujō — One Michelin Star
Mujō is a one-Michelin-star sushi restaurant offering an omakase-only experience. The menu changes daily and features fish flown in directly from Japan, alongside seasonal small plates and specialty nigiri. It is inspired by the Japanese concept of ichi-go ichi-e — meaning “one time, one meeting” — treating every dining experience as a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
When Will Winners Be Announced?
The 2026 James Beard Awards Ceremony takes place on June 15, 2026 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
For Atlanta food lovers, this is a proud moment — and a great excuse to make a reservation before the whole country finds out.
