A terrifying moment unfolded inside a Stockton dance studio Tuesday evening when a car suddenly crashed through the building’s wall — right in the middle of an ongoing children’s dance class.
The crash happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. near Lower Sacramento Road and Grider Way, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Stockton office.
What Happened?
Investigators say the driver, a woman, missed a turn and drove her vehicle straight into the building. The force of the impact sent debris flying across the studio.
Two 9-year-old children were struck by flying debris and had to be rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, officials confirmed both children suffered only minor injuries.
A Lucky Escape for the Rest of the Class
Here’s what could have made this so much worse — a full dance class was in session inside the building at the exact time of the crash.
But in a stroke of luck, all of the other children in the class were on the opposite side of the building when the car came through. That distance likely prevented what could have been a far more serious tragedy.
No Drugs or Alcohol Involved
CHP investigators confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in this crash. The incident appears to have been a straightforward — but devastating — driving mistake.
The Takeaway
Two children walked away from a truly frightening situation with minor injuries. It’s the kind of story that reminds every parent just how unexpected danger can be, even inside a dance studio on an ordinary Tuesday evening.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
