A woman is fighting for her life Tuesday night after a stabbing in South Natomas left the surrounding community on edge — and police scrambling for answers.
The incident was reported just before 6:30 p.m. near West El Camino Avenue and Gateway Oaks Drive, a busy area just west of the bridge over Interstate 5.
When Sacramento Police Department officers arrived on scene, they found a woman suffering from at least one stab wound. She was rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
As of 8 p.m., she was still in critical condition and undergoing surgery.
Police Are Still Piecing Together What Happened
Investigators say they are still working to determine exactly where within the area the stabbing took place.
That detail alone points to how little is known at this stage.
No suspect has been identified. No description has been released. And as of Tuesday night, police said they are actively searching for any information that could point them toward the person responsible.
A Neighborhood Left With Questions
South Natomas is a residential and commercial area with heavy foot and vehicle traffic, especially along the West El Camino Avenue corridor.
The timing — just before evening rush hour — means the attack likely happened while residents were heading home, running errands, or passing through the area.
Neighbors and commuters who were in the vicinity between 6 and 7 p.m. Tuesday are being urged to think back to anything they may have seen or heard.
Even small details — an unfamiliar face, a parked vehicle, someone moving quickly through the area — could help investigators narrow down what happened and who is responsible.
What Investigators Are Asking From the Public
Sacramento Police have not yet released a suspect description, but they are actively seeking tips from anyone with information.
If you were near West El Camino Avenue and Gateway Oaks Drive Tuesday evening and noticed anything unusual, contact the Sacramento Police Department directly.
Information shared by the public in cases like this often makes the difference between a case going cold and a suspect being found.
This is a developing story. Updates will be added as Sacramento Police release new information.
