A quiet Sunday morning in west Detroit turned into a frightening scene after a 6-year-old girl accidentally shot herself with an unsecured firearm inside a home, authorities said.
The incident happened around 9 a.m. on the 8840 block of Artesian Street in the Franklin Park neighborhood. Emergency crews responded quickly, and the child was rushed to a nearby hospital. As of Sunday afternoon, she was reported to be in stable condition.
Officers remained at the home for several hours, questioning individuals inside the residence as part of the ongoing investigation. The Detroit Police Department is now working to determine exactly how the firearm was accessed and whether proper safety measures were followed.
