After a rough and stormy Saturday, Kansas residents can look forward to a much-needed break on Sunday — and the timing couldn’t be better for holiday weekend plans.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms moved through much of Kansas on Friday night and continued into Saturday, keeping skies cloudy and conditions unsettled. But the storm system is expected to push out overnight, leaving Sunday looking noticeably calmer and warmer across the state.
Sunday’s forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with highs climbing back into the low 80s — a welcome change from the previous days of gray skies and rain. If you’ve been waiting for a window to fire up the grill, take the dog for a walk, or just sit outside, Sunday appears to be your best bet of the holiday weekend.
Memorial Day itself looks even better, with sunshine expected to dominate and temperatures warming into the mid-80s. It’s shaping up to be the kind of classic Memorial Day weather that Kansans have been waiting for all weekend.
That said, forecasters note that the next chance of thunderstorms arrives by Wednesday and Thursday of next week. The severe weather threat for those storms appears low at this time, but it’s worth keeping an eye on the forecast as the week progresses.
For now, Kansas gets a deserved breather. After the stormy start to the weekend, Sunday and Monday are setting up to be the standout days — warm, mostly dry, and perfect for outdoor activities.
Weekend recap for Kansas:
- Saturday: Stormy, cloudy, unsettled
- Sunday: Partly cloudy, warm, mostly dry — ENJOY IT
- Memorial Day Monday: Mostly sunny, mid-80s, great conditions
- Next storm chance: Wednesday/Thursday
Make the most of the sunshine while it lasts, Kansas!
