LAFOURCHE PARISH, Louisiana — A 29-year-old man is dead after his vehicle left the roadway and slammed into a utility pole in the early hours of Monday morning, Louisiana State Police say.
The crash happened shortly after 2 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 308 near Valentine Drive in Lafourche Parish.
Investigators with State Police Troop C said Kevin Porter of Harvey was behind the wheel of a 2010 Nissan Altima, traveling southbound on Highway 308.
For reasons that are still under investigation, the vehicle drifted off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.
Driver Pronounced Dead at the Scene
Porter suffered fatal injuries in the collision.
Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. He was 29 years old.
Authorities confirmed that Porter was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Investigation Is Still Ongoing
Louisiana State Police troopers responded to the scene and began a full investigation into the cause of the crash.
A standard toxicology sample was collected from Porter and sent for laboratory analysis. Results are pending.
No other vehicles were involved. No additional injuries were reported.
