This Weekend's Heat Could Feel Like 100°F — And Storms Are on the Way Too

PHILADELPHIA, New Jersey — The heat is not letting up this weekend, and for many residents, stepping outside is going to feel like walking into an oven.

Saturday is shaping up to be the most intense day. Highs will climb into the middle 90s, but with rising humidity, the feels-like temperature could push into the upper 90s — and for some, that means triple digits.

If you are planning to be outside, plan around the heat. This is not the weekend to push it.

Saturday Evening Brings Storm Threat

The heat will not go quietly Saturday night.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible starting in the early evening and could continue through the overnight hours. These are not guaranteed for every neighborhood, but where they do pop up, they can bring heavy rain and lightning quickly.

Keep an eye on local alerts if you have outdoor plans Saturday night.

Sunday: Storms Exit, Sun Returns

Sunday morning starts unsettled, with widely scattered showers or storms still possible — mainly across South Jersey.

But conditions improve through the day. Skies clear to mostly sunny by the afternoon, and highs settle around 90 degrees. The heat sticks around, but the storm threat fades.

It will still be warm enough to take precautions if you are spending time outdoors.

Monday Brings the Best Day of the Stretch

If you are waiting for a comfortable day, Monday is it.

Mostly sunny skies, a refreshing breeze, and highs only in the lower 80s. After days of intense heat, Monday is going to feel like a completely different season.

Get outside. Enjoy it. It does not last long.

Heat Builds Right Back by Midweek

Tuesday stays pleasant with partly cloudy skies and highs in the middle 80s.

Wednesday creeps warmer again as humidity returns. Highs stay in the middle 80s, but the mugginess will make it feel heavier than the numbers suggest.

Then Thursday hits — and another heat wave begins.

Highs are expected to climb back to around 90 degrees, humidity increases, and a slight chance of an afternoon storm returns. If this pattern holds, next week could look a lot like this one.

How to Stay Safe in the Heat This Weekend

With feels-like temps near 100 on Saturday, heat safety is serious. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Stay hydrated and drink water before you feel thirsty
  • Limit outdoor activity between noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday
  • Check on elderly neighbors and family members — they are most at risk
  • Never leave children or pets in a parked car, even briefly
  • Find air-conditioned spaces if your home is not adequately cooled

Local cooling centers may be open this weekend — check your city or county website for locations and hours.
