Ex-Police Officer Convicted in Drunk-Driving Crash That Claimed Lives of Maryland Couple

A former Hillside police officer could spend decades behind bars after being found guilty in a deadly crash that took the lives of a married couple from Maryland.

John McClave, 38, was convicted of vehicular homicide in connection with the October 2021 collision in Tinton Falls, according to Monmouth County prosecutors.

Authorities said McClave was driving to work when the crash occurred along Asbury Avenue, near the Garden State Parkway. Investigators determined he was under the influence at the time of the incident.

Prosecutors stated that his pickup truck veered off the roadway and slammed into another vehicle, killing the husband and wife inside. The couple died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

McClave now faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for May, where a judge will determine the final penalty.
