Enfield, Connecticut: Authorities are investigating the death of a 12-year-old girl who was discovered unresponsive inside a residence Wednesday morning.
Police said officers were dispatched to the home around 10:30 a.m. after a 911 call was placed from the property. When emergency responders arrived, they located the young girl deceased inside the house.
The Enfield Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Unit. Officials secured a search warrant and spent more than 12 hours examining the home as part of the ongoing inquiry. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was also called to help determine the cause and manner of death.
At this time, authorities have not released the girl’s identity or disclosed who else may have been present in the home when the incident occurred. Investigators said the cause of death has not yet been determined, and it remains unclear whether the case is being treated as suspicious.
Despite the heavy police presence, officials stated there is no known threat to the public and no immediate safety concerns for the community.
The tragedy has deeply affected residents across Enfield. Although the girl had been homeschooled and was not enrolled in local public schools, community leaders acknowledged the emotional impact of her passing.
Superintendent Steven Moccio described the loss as heartbreaking and said counseling resources have been made available to students and families. Town officials are coordinating with local support services to ensure additional assistance is accessible to those in need.
Neighbors expressed shock as investigators worked throughout the day. Many said they were alerted to the seriousness of the situation after seeing numerous police vehicles surrounding the home.
The investigation remains active, and officials are awaiting further findings from the medical examiner before providing additional details.
