1 dead, 1 fighting for life after car bursts into flames on 10 Freeway — bystanders detained a suspect at the scene

A violent, fiery crash on the 10 Freeway Monday night killed one person and left another in critical condition — and the events leading up to it are raising serious questions.

The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on the eastbound lanes near Robertson Boulevard in the Palms area of Los Angeles’ Westside, according to the California Highway Patrol’s incident log.

What firefighters found

When Los Angeles Fire Department crews arrived, one car was fully engulfed in flames.

After extinguishing the fire, crews discovered one victim who was beyond medical help and pronounced dead at the scene.

A second person was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

A third person — detained by bystanders

Here’s where it gets unusual.

LAFD officials confirmed that a third patient — reportedly held at the scene by bystanders before crews arrived — was also transported to a hospital in unknown condition.

Authorities have not yet explained what role, if any, that person played in the crash.

Miles of traffic, one open lane

Aerial footage captured a massive backup stretching miles from the crash site.

Only one lane remained open as investigators surveyed the wreckage and waited for crews to clear the road.

Investigation ongoing

Circumstances surrounding what led up to the crash remain under investigation. No further details about the victims have been released.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
