Maryland–D.C.–Virginia Weather Alert Today: 83°F Heat Sparks Evening Storm Threat Across Baltimore

Maryland- Baltimore is heading into a classic spring weather flip today—starting warm and calm, but quickly turning unsettled as the day progresses. Temperatures are already climbing toward a high near 83°F, creating the perfect setup for strong afternoon and evening storms.

By mid to late afternoon, conditions are expected to shift rapidly. Scattered thunderstorms may begin developing after 3 p.m., with some storms turning intense in a short span of time. Gusty winds, brief downpours, and even small hail could impact parts of the region, especially during peak evening hours when people are heading home.

The storm system stretches across the busy I-95 corridor, affecting areas from Virginia through Maryland and into Pennsylvania. While not every neighborhood will see severe weather, the atmosphere is unstable enough for isolated strong cells that can develop quickly and catch people off guard.

In Baltimore, travel conditions could become challenging during the evening commute. Roads like I-95, I-695, and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway may see sudden heavy rain, reducing visibility and making driving risky. Wet pavement combined with gusty winds can slow traffic and increase braking distance, so extra caution is advised.

Air travel could also be impacted. Flights at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport may face delays if lightning or heavy rain moves over the airport during key departure windows.

If you have outdoor plans, it’s best to wrap them up early or move indoors by late afternoon. Storms are expected to continue into the evening, with rain chances increasing overnight. Some areas could see between half an inch to three-quarters of an inch of rainfall, along with patchy fog developing later tonight.

The unsettled pattern doesn’t end immediately. Thursday brings a noticeable cooldown with highs near the low 60s and lingering showers. However, relief arrives soon after, with Friday and Saturday expected to be warmer, calmer, and mostly sunny—ideal for outdoor activities.

Looking ahead, Sunday may bring another round of showers, potentially affecting early April travel plans and weekend outings.

Baltimore Five-Day Outlook:
Today: Scattered storms, high near 83°F
Thursday: Chance of showers, high near 63°F
Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 79°F
Saturday: Mostly sunny, high near 81°F
Sunday: Showers likely, high near 72°F

Keep an eye on changing conditions today—what starts as a warm, pleasant afternoon could quickly turn into a stormy evening.
