Authorities are urgently searching for 18-year-old Diego Rodriguez, who is wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Kaufman County that left one teen dead and another critically injured.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on March 27 near County Roads 101 and 103. Investigators allege Rodriguez, along with a second unidentified suspect, fired more than 30 rounds during the attack. The victims—both 18—were caught in the gunfire, and the suspects are further accused of stealing a truck and running over one of them.
Kace Leatherwood later died from his injuries, while the second victim, identified as Luis Velez, remains hospitalized and fighting for his life. In a desperate moment after the shooting, one of the victims managed to call 911, helping authorities respond quickly.
Multiple arrest warrants have been issued, and the case has drawn support from the U.S. Marshals Service and the Texas Rangers, working alongside the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office.
Rodriguez is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing approximately 130 pounds. Officials warn that he should be considered armed and dangerous. His current whereabouts remain unknown, and it is unclear whether he is still in the area.
Authorities urge the public not to approach him. Anyone with information is asked to contact law enforcement immediately.
