Man Charged in Felony Domestic Assault Case After Early-Morning Incident

Carlisle, Iowa: A 46-year-old man from Carlisle is facing serious charges after police responded to a reported domestic assault that later led to the discovery of multiple drugs inside a residence.

According to authorities, the incident took place in the early hours of March 14, when officers from the Carlisle Police Department were dispatched to a home in the 1200 block of Hardin Drive at approximately 5:09 a.m. The call was related to a domestic disturbance involving alleged physical violence.

What Happened

When officers arrived at the scene, they spoke with a victim who reported being struck multiple times in the head with fists. The victim had visible injuries, including an open cut on the forehead and chin, along with bleeding from the mouth. The suspect, identified as Jason Richard Shipman, had already left the residence before police reached the location.

During their initial assessment inside the apartment, officers noticed drug paraphernalia in plain view. This observation led authorities to obtain a search warrant for a more detailed investigation of the premises.

Drug Discovery During Investigation

Following the approved search, law enforcement officials reported finding several substances and related items, including marijuana, cannabidiol (CBD), methamphetamine, and additional drug paraphernalia. These findings expanded the case beyond the initial assault report.

Shipman now faces multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance (second offense), possession of marijuana, and possession of cannabidiol, along with the primary charge related to domestic abuse.

Prior History and Legal Implications

Court records indicate that Shipman has a history of domestic abuse assault convictions in Iowa. Due to these prior offenses, the current domestic abuse charge has been elevated to a Class D felony, which carries more severe legal consequences compared to a first-time offense.

Authorities have also requested a no-contact order to protect the victim as the case proceeds through the legal system.

Ongoing Legal Process

Officials have not released further details about Shipman’s current custody status. The case remains active, and additional court proceedings are expected as prosecutors move forward with the charges.

Law enforcement continues to emphasize the importance of reporting domestic violence incidents and ensuring victim safety while investigations are ongoing.
