Major Drug Bust Uncovers LSD, Cocaine, Fentanyl and Weapons After Months-Long Investigation

Jefferson County, Colorado: A major drug trafficking investigation in Jefferson County, Colorado has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect and the seizure of large quantities of narcotics and firearms, authorities confirmed. The case, which unfolded over several months, highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to combat illegal drug distribution in the region.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation centered around Hunter Covelli, who allegedly turned himself in Wednesday in Walworth County, Wisconsin. Officials say he is currently facing 35 charges, including multiple serious drug felonies and counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.

How the Investigation Began

Authorities say the case started in November after receiving a tip that Covelli was repeatedly selling significant quantities of drugs in the Wheat Ridge area. The substances allegedly included cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, and LSD.

Following the tip, the West Metro Drug Task Force (WMDTF) initiated an investigation. Detectives reportedly conducted undercover operations, arranging controlled purchases to verify the suspected drug activity. These operations played a key role in building the case.

Search Warrant Leads to Massive Seizure

In January, investigators executed a search warrant at Covelli’s residence. What they found, officials say, was a large and concerning stash of drugs and weapons.

Authorities reported seizing:

  • Tens of thousands of pills
  • Large quantities of cocaine, MDMA, and ketamine
  • Psychedelic mushrooms
  • Around 60,000 LSD tablets and liquid LSD vials
  • Eight firearms
  • A pill press believed to be used for drug production

Law enforcement officials described the operation as a significant disruption to a suspected trafficking network.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

In addition to drug-related charges, Covelli is also facing multiple counts tied to illegal weapon possession. Officials confirmed that he is expected to be extradited back to Jefferson County, where court proceedings will take place.

Ongoing Investigation

The West Metro Drug Task Force, a collaboration between the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and several local police departments, continues to investigate the case. The unit focuses on identifying and dismantling drug trafficking operations across the region.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation is still active, and further developments may emerge as the case progresses.

This incident underscores the scale of illegal drug operations that can exist within communities and the continued efforts by law enforcement to address them.
