Martinez, California — A routine afternoon at a grocery store in Martinez turned chaotic on Wednesday after a vehicle crashed into the building, injuring an elderly customer inside.
The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. at a Safeway store located on Alhambra Avenue, according to the Martinez Police Department. Authorities said a 76-year-old woman was attempting to park when she mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

Police explained that the driver lost control of her vehicle, which jumped the curb and slammed into the east side of the store near the north entrance. The sudden impact sent shockwaves through the front section of the building, disrupting fixtures inside.
