The tragedy unfolded Friday around 5 p.m. near Pennsylvania Avenue and Lacock Street, where 9-year-old Therman Wallace was riding his bicycle. Police say a black truck made a turn in the area and struck the child.
Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly continued on, leaving the scene as the injured boy lay on the road. The incident was later confirmed as a fatal hit-and-run.
Driver Identified and Arrested
Authorities identified the driver as Thomas Earl Cole, 53. He has been charged with vehicular homicide while driving under the influence, along with additional charges including DUI and leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
According to investigators, the vehicle involved was registered to Cole. Officers later located him at his home, where he initially denied being on the road at the time of the crash.
