A disturbing workplace incident in Trumann, Arkansas, has left one man seriously injured and another facing criminal charges, according to local law enforcement officials.
Authorities say the situation unfolded on March 23 at a recycling facility, where two co-workers were on duty during what should have been a routine workday. Instead, the day took a violent turn following an alleged dispute over a small debt.
What Happened at the Worksite
Investigators with the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office reported that 37-year-old Joshua Warren Campbell is accused of attacking his co-worker using a blowtorch typically used for cutting metal.
According to the affidavit, Campbell allegedly pointed the tool at the victim’s back and activated it, causing severe second- and third-degree burns. The victim reportedly reacted instantly, throwing himself to the ground in pain. In the chaos, he also suffered bruises and broken ribs.
Emergency treatment was required, and officials confirmed that the victim later underwent surgery and skin graft procedures due to the seriousness of the burns.
Alleged Motive Behind the Attack
During the investigation, the victim told officers that he had overheard Campbell and another co-worker discussing plans to harm him. Authorities also referenced a recorded conversation in which Campbell allegedly admitted to intentionally burning the victim.
The motive appears to center around a $100 debt related to a moped, which the victim allegedly owed to another individual connected to the workplace.
In the recorded conversation, Campbell reportedly expressed regret, stating he “felt bad” and acknowledged that the victim did not deserve such harm.
Arrest and Legal Status
Campbell was later taken into custody and booked into the Poinsett County Detention Center on April 20. He has since been released after posting a $10,000 bond.
He now faces a battery charge, though officials have not yet announced his next court date.
