Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Head-On Crash on U.S. 20 in Sandusky County

A wrong-way crash on U.S. 20 in Sandusky County, Ohio, turned fatal Tuesday night, leaving one driver dead and another seriously injured.

What Happened?

Janet Hirt, 68, of Fremont, was driving west in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 20 near Township Road 214 just after 9:30 p.m. when her 2014 Chevrolet Sonic collided head-on with a 2014 Dodge Dart traveling in the correct direction.

Hirt was pronounced dead at the scene.

What About the Other Driver?

The driver of the Dodge Dart, a 32-year-old Fremont man, was rushed to Fremont ProMedica Hospital before being transferred by ambulance to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

Authorities say his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Road Impact

The head-on collision forced the closure of eastbound U.S. 20 for approximately two hours following the crash.

Investigation Ongoing

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Fremont Post is currently investigating the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
