A California man has been found guilty of first-degree murder after shooting his girlfriend and two of her family members dead — triggered in part by someone touching his karaoke speaker.
What Happened?
Eric Otto White shot and killed three people at a home in Redlands, California in August 2020:
- Kavina Brooks — his girlfriend
- Kavona Brooks-Lee — Kavina’s twin sister
- Kenneth Lee — Kavina’s brother-in-law
Both Kavina and Kenneth were pronounced dead at the scene. Kavona died after being placed on life support.
What Set Him Off?
According to trial testimony, White became enraged after Kavina touched his prized karaoke speaker. He also disapproved of her parenting style, calling it too “lenient.”
Just one day before the shooting, Kavina had asked White to move out.
The Moment It Turned Deadly
Kavina shouted “Calm down!” as White pulled out a gun. Kenneth Lee told White directly, “You’re threatening somebody’s life” — seconds before the shooting began.
A 14-Year-Old Witnessed Everything
Kavina’s daughter, who was 14 at the time, was present during the attack. She later testified about White’s anger over the speaker and her mother’s parenting.
Relatives said White also made an attempt on the young girl’s life — she survived by hiding immediately.
What Happened After?
White fled the scene, changed his vehicle’s license plates and drove to Las Vegas before being arrested several weeks later.
Conviction and What’s Next
White was convicted of first-degree murder on April 30 in San Bernardino County. He is eligible for the death penalty due to multiple first-degree murder charges.
His sentencing date has not yet been set.
