WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — A violent crash on Florida’s Turnpike sent one person to the hospital by helicopter Wednesday morning and brought southbound traffic to a standstill in Winter Garden.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded just after 7 a.m. to the scene near the SR-50 exit, where three vehicles had collided in a crash that left troopers closing every southbound lane to manage the aftermath.
Three Vehicles, One Airlifted
According to FHP, three vehicles were involved in the crash — a 2005 Toyota Tundra that was hauling a trailer, a sedan, and a semi-truck.
The driver of the sedan suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to the hospital.
The conditions of the other drivers have not yet been released by troopers.
Traffic Backed Up Along the Turnpike
The lane closures triggered significant delays along Florida’s Turnpike as troopers worked to secure the scene and clear the wreckage.
Commuters heading southbound during the busy morning rush were left with few options as all lanes remained shut.
All lanes have since reopened, FHP confirmed.
Investigation Ongoing
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate what caused the three-vehicle crash.
No further details — including speed, road conditions, or what led to the collision — have been released at this time.
Updates are expected as troopers piece together the sequence of events.
