THOUSAND OAKS, California — The homeowners were not supposed to be back so soon. But when one of them walked through the front door last Tuesday, what they found stopped them cold.

Their home had been ransacked. Over $100,000 worth of valuables — gone.

What followed was a cross-county manhunt that ended with four men in handcuffs and the stolen belongings recovered from inside their own vehicles.

Four Men Charged After Thousand Oaks Break-In

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office arrested the following four men on charges of residential burglary and conspiracy:

  • Javier Ricardo Pulido Ramirez, 41
  • Diego Fernando Paipilla Cuervo, 39
  • Sergio Alejandro Paez Cuervo, 27
  • Jesus Miguel Velez Hernandez, 35

All four are currently being held in jail on $500,000 bail each.

What Happened Inside the Home

Investigators said the burglary took place while the homeowners were away.

One of the victims returned home shortly after the suspects had left and discovered the house had been completely ransacked. The thieves had made off with $100,000 worth of the family’s belongings.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office immediately launched an investigation and reached out to neighboring agencies for help.

A Chase Near Calabasas Blew It All Open

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol to track down the suspects.

CHP officers spotted one of the suspect vehicles near Calabasas and moved to pull it over.

The driver did not stop.

A brief pursuit followed. When the chase ended, three suspects jumped out of the car and tried to flee on foot. Officers caught all three of them quickly.

The Fourth Suspect Did Not Get Far Either

Detectives learned that the fourth suspect had split from the group and was driving a separate vehicle.

They passed that information to the Los Angeles Police Department. LAPD tracked him down and made the arrest.

When investigators searched the suspects’ vehicles, they found what they were looking for — the victims’ stolen belongings were still inside.

What This Means for the Community

Residential burglaries that target homes while families are away are a growing concern in communities across Southern California.

This case was cracked quickly because multiple agencies worked together and moved fast — but the emotional toll on the victims does not disappear with an arrest.

If you notice anything suspicious in your neighborhood, reporting it to local law enforcement immediately can make all the difference.
