A heated argument ended in tragedy Wednesday night in Northeast Philadelphia when a 35-year-old man was shot and killed, and the suspect fled the scene, police said.
Shooting Unfolds After Store Dispute
Officers responded just after 7 p.m. to the 6600 block of Summerdale Avenue, where they found the victim lying in the street next to a running SUV.
According to police, the confrontation began inside a nearby store, where the victim and another man got into an argument. The dispute escalated and spilled outside into the street.
Gunfire at Close Range
Investigators say the victim was sitting inside his parked SUV when the alleged shooter approached the passenger-side window and fired three shots. The man was struck at least once in the back.
Emergency responders transported him to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 7:45 p.m.
Authorities confirmed the entire shooting was captured on private surveillance cameras in the area, which are now being reviewed as part of the investigation.
Suspect Escapes on Foot
After firing the shots, the suspect ran southbound on Summerdale Avenue toward Magee Avenue. Police say he was armed with a semiautomatic weapon when he fled.
At the scene, investigators recovered three spent shell casings on the roadway.
Police also located a semiautomatic handgun and three live rounds on the driver’s side door of the SUV. Authorities believe the firearm was in the possession of the victim at the time of the shooting.
Motive Remains Unclear
At this time, investigators have not disclosed what sparked the original argument between the two men. The suspect remains at large, and the case is actively under investigation.
Police are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area to come forward as they work to identify and apprehend the shooter.
