Beverly Hills Hostage Released After Armed Suspect Barricades Inside Truck During Standoff

A woman held hostage inside a pickup truck in Beverly Hills was safely released Sunday night after an hours-long standoff with law enforcement.

How It Started

At around 1:30 p.m., automated license plate cameras in Beverly Hills detected a felony vehicle. Officers located a gray Ford pickup truck near San Vicente Boulevard and Beverly Boulevard and attempted a traffic stop.

The suspect refused to stop and fled. A brief chase ended when the truck crashed into another vehicle near Burton Way and Robertson Boulevard.

Standoff Begins

After the crash, the suspect barricaded inside the truck. SWAT teams, LAPD officers and LA County Sheriff’s deputies all responded to the scene.

Hostage Situation

By 10 p.m., authorities confirmed the suspect was armed and holding a woman hostage inside the vehicle. The truck’s windows were darkly tinted and the front windshield was blocked by a sunshade, making it difficult for officers to see inside.

At around 11 p.m., the hostage was released and walked away from the scene without visible injuries.

What Led to This?

LA County Sheriff’s deputies had first tried to detain the suspect near 106th Street and Hawthorne Boulevard in Lennox just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

During that attempt, a struggle occurred and the suspect fled — injuring a deputy in the process. The suspect is wanted for attempted murder of a sheriff’s deputy.

Current Status

As of late Sunday night, the suspect remained barricaded inside the truck. No update has been provided on the injured deputy’s condition.
