BSO Searches for Suspect After Bicyclist Beaten and Robbed in Oakland Park

Oakland Park, Florida – Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office are searching for a robbery suspect accused of violently attacking a bicyclist in broad daylight earlier this week. The assault left the victim bloodied and hospitalized, prompting authorities to release a surveillance image and offer a reward for information leading to an arrest.

Incident Happened in the Afternoon

According to investigators, the robbery occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 3000 block of Northwest 21st Avenue in Oakland Park. Officials said the victim was riding his bicycle in the area when he was suddenly confronted by an adult male suspect.

Authorities reported that the suspect allegedly grabbed the bicycle tire, stopping the victim’s movement, and demanded his wallet. The suspect was heard yelling at the victim to hand it over.

Victim Assaulted After Denying Wallet Possession

When the victim responded that he did not have a wallet, the situation escalated quickly. Investigators said the suspect began punching the victim repeatedly in the face. The attack left the bicyclist bleeding and defenseless.

Officials stated that once the victim fell to the ground, the suspect took the victim’s iPhone before fleeing the scene. The violent nature of the robbery has raised concerns among residents, especially given that it occurred in the early afternoon.

Emergency responders transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed that his injuries were non-life threatening, though he sustained visible facial trauma from the assault.

Surveillance Image Released

On Friday, the Broward Sheriff’s Office released a surveillance image of the suspect in hopes that someone may recognize him. Detectives described the suspect as an adult male with a full gray and black beard.

At the time of the robbery, he was reportedly wearing a tan woven sun hat, a black long-sleeve shirt, and blue jeans. Investigators believe the released image could be critical in identifying and locating the suspect.

Reward Offered for Information

In an effort to generate leads, authorities announced that a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that results in an arrest. The reward is being offered through Broward Crime Stoppers.

Officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or recognizes the suspect to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously, and law enforcement emphasized that even small details could prove valuable in solving the case.

Detectives continue to review surveillance footage and gather evidence from the area. The investigation remains active as authorities work to identify the suspect and prevent further incidents.
