A quiet early Sunday morning turned tragic in Reading after a man was shot and killed inside a downtown hotel, leaving the community shaken.

Police say the shooting happened around 12:51 a.m. on April 5 in a first-floor hallway of the DoubleTree by Hilton on Penn Street. Officers responded quickly and found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he later died.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of family members.

A suspect has been taken into custody, though officials have not shared details about the individual or what may have led to the shooting. The lack of a confirmed motive has left many questions unanswered as investigators continue to piece together what happened in the early hours of the morning.

Eddie Morán addressed the incident, expressing sympathy for the victim’s loved ones. He described the situation as a tragic and isolated event, emphasizing that it does not reflect the usual safety and standards associated with the hotel or the surrounding area.
