LACEY, Wash. — A deadly multi-vehicle crash in Lacey on Wednesday afternoon left one pedestrian dead and several others injured after a pickup truck slammed into multiple vehicles before crashing into a nearby building.
According to authorities, the collision happened shortly after 4:15 p.m. in the 6100 block of Pacific Avenue Southeast.
Investigators said a gray pickup truck crashed into at least two vehicles before leaving the roadway and striking a building along the busy stretch of road. During the incident, an elderly pedestrian was hit.
First responders rushed to the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck and another pedestrian suffered injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials said a second passenger inside the pickup truck received minor injuries.
Following the crash, Pacific Avenue Southeast was closed between Carpenter Road Southeast and Homann Drive Southeast as police and emergency crews worked at the scene. Drivers in the area were advised to use alternate routes while investigators processed evidence and cleared debris.
The Lacey Police Major Collision Team has launched an investigation to determine what caused the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
Authorities have not yet identified the victim pending family notification.
