Elderly Woman Robs Alabama Bank, Then Walks Into Police Station to Surrender

An unusual bank robbery in Gardendale has left both police and the local community surprised.

According to the Gardendale Police Department, the incident took place around 9:03 a.m. on April 10. An elderly woman entered a branch of Regions Bank located on Odum Road and handed a note to staff demanding money.

Authorities said the situation remained calm, and no injuries were reported. After receiving the cash, the woman did not attempt to flee. Instead, she walked directly to the police department and voluntarily handed over the money.

Police confirmed that she surrendered without resistance and is now in custody. Officials believe she acted alone.

The woman’s caregiver has been informed, and authorities stated that the case is being handled appropriately, considering her condition and circumstances. Charges are still pending as the investigation continues.

A spokesperson for Regions Bank confirmed that all employees and customers were safe during the incident. The branch was temporarily closed following the event.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation office in Birmingham is assisting local authorities with the investigation.

While details about the woman’s motive remain unclear, the case stands out due to the unusual decision to immediately surrender after the robbery. Police say further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
