Shreveport, Louisiana — A quiet neighborhood in Shreveport turned into the scene of an unimaginable tragedy early Sunday morning, after a 31-year-old man allegedly shot and killed eight children — seven of them his own — in a violent rampage that has shaken the entire community.
According to Shreveport Police Department, the suspect, identified as Shamar Elkins, carried out shootings across multiple homes before being shot and killed by officers following a brief chase.
What Happened
Police said the violence began just before 6 a.m. when emergency calls started coming in from two nearby locations — Harrison Street and West 79th Street. The first caller reported a shooting involving a family member, while another call described a suspect who had shot multiple people inside a home.
When officers arrived, they encountered a chaotic and heartbreaking scene. Several victims were found inside the residences, while others had attempted to escape. Some children reportedly ran toward the back of the house, while a woman and a 12-year-old girl jumped from the roof in a desperate attempt to survive.
