A Houston father is dead after he tried to confront the man who carjacked his son — and the suspect was already walking free on probation for a violent assault.
Louis Erebia, 56, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in Northeast Houston while trying to get back his son’s stolen vehicle. The shooting happened around 2 p.m. in the 11800 block of Tidwell Road.
Suspect London Hogan, 37, was arrested Sunday evening and charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. His bond has been denied.
What Happened
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Hogan allegedly stole Erebia’s son’s vehicle at gunpoint. When Erebia found out, he went to confront Hogan and recover the car — and was shot. A second man was also shot but survived. Erebia was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
System Failed to Keep Hogan Locked Up, Family Says
What makes this case even more heartbreaking — Hogan should not have been free.
Court records show Hogan pleaded guilty in 2025 to choking a woman in 2023, receiving five years of probation. He was also arrested in Louisiana in January 2025 for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into a federal prison.
On Monday, Crime Stoppers Houston held a press conference with Erebia’s family, directly accusing the justice system of failing to keep Hogan off the streets.
“We are here today and we shouldn’t be,” said April Aguirre of Texas Crime Victims United. “If we continue to be lenient against violent offenders, good people pay the price.”
Family Remembers Louis as a Protector
Erebia’s sister-in-law, Amber Burrough, made it clear — he didn’t run toward danger for nothing.
“Louis didn’t get shot running to danger. Louis got shot running to protect.”
“He’s got a legacy that’s going to last past this news conference,” she added, calling for full justice for everyone involved in the carjacking and shooting.
Hogan has not yet been appointed an attorney. Investigators continue to look into whether others involved in the carjacking need to be charged.
