DeFuniak Springs, Florida – A 33-year-old Florida man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he pointed a handgun at several drivers during a road rage confrontation in Walton County. The incident unfolded in the early afternoon and prompted a swift response from local law enforcement.
According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1 p.m. on February 8 to reports of a man allegedly brandishing a firearm at motorists while traveling northbound on U.S. Route 331 in DeFuniak Springs.
What Investigators Say Happened
Authorities located the suspect vehicle described as a white Ford Explorer. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was later identified as Blackie Alvarez, 33, of Bonifay.
Officials said that upon exiting the SUV, Alvarez removed a black handgun from his waistband and placed it on top of the vehicle. During a search, deputies also discovered two metal knuckles in his pockets.
Investigators allege that Alvarez began speeding and repeatedly honking at the victims’ vehicle prior to the confrontation. Witnesses told deputies that Alvarez maneuvered around their car and abruptly stopped in front of them. At that point, he allegedly pulled out a firearm and pointed it directly at the occupants of the other vehicle.
The victims reported feeling threatened and feared for their safety during the encounter.

Following the investigation, Alvarez was arrested and charged with:
- Two felony counts of false imprisonment
- Two felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
- One felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Two counts of unlawful carry of a concealed weapon
- Driving without a valid license
Authorities also confirmed that Alvarez had an outstanding warrant in Bay County, Florida, for failure to pay child support.
Officials stated that Alvarez refused to speak with investigators following his arrest.
Bond and Custody Status
Alvarez was taken into custody and transported to jail, where he is currently being held on a $235,000 bond. Court proceedings are expected to determine the next steps in the case.
Road Rage and Public Safety Concerns
Law enforcement agencies continue to warn drivers about the dangers of road rage incidents. Confrontational behavior behind the wheel can escalate quickly, particularly when weapons are involved.
