Gunfire on Campbellton Road Leaves Man Injured, School Bus Damaged; Police Seek Three Suspects

Authorities in Atlanta are asking for the public’s assistance after a shooting along Campbellton Road left a 20-year-old man hospitalized and a school bus riddled with bullets.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, the incident occurred Wednesday in the 2600 block of Campbellton Road. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found a young man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital in alert and conscious condition. Officials have not released details about his injuries but confirmed he was breathing and responsive at the scene.

In a troubling turn, stray bullets also struck a school bus that had already completed its afternoon route. The bus driver and her two children were on board at the time of the shooting. The children, both students within the Atlanta Public Schools district, suffered minor cuts from shattered glass. The driver was not injured.

Residents in the area described the incident as alarming and unexpected. One neighbor said she initially thought a vehicle had simply been pulled over, unaware that gunfire had erupted nearby. Another woman, who was picking up a family member just a block away, recalled hearing the shots and later learning a school bus had been hit. She said the realization that children could have been seriously harmed was deeply unsettling.

Investigators say three individuals are believed to be connected to the shooting. Surveillance images released by police show the suspects walking alongside the victim moments before gunfire broke out. Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive but are actively reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Police are urging anyone who recognizes the individuals in the released photos or who has information about the incident to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers. Individuals who provide information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspects may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. Meanwhile, community members are expressing concern over rising violence in areas frequented by families and school transportation vehicles, emphasizing the need for swift accountability and enhanced safety measures.
