He Beat and Burned His Girlfriend to Death — Then Expressed Shock She 'Normally Wakes Up.' Weeks Later, He Was Killed in Jail

A Pennsylvania man accused of beating and burning his girlfriend to death — and then telling a witness she “normally wakes up” after he abused her — was killed by fellow inmates inside a county jail before he could stand trial, authorities say.

Tyrone Good, 44, had been locked up at the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh for less than a month when multiple incarcerated individuals entered his cell and assaulted him on Wednesday, according to the Allegheny County Police Department. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Good had been arrested on April 15 and charged with the criminal homicide of his 44-year-old girlfriend, Michelle Sturdivant — a case rooted in events from late December.

What Investigators Found

On Dec. 28 at approximately 2 a.m., Pittsburgh police, firefighters, and EMS workers responded to the 100 block of Watson Boulevard after receiving reports of an unresponsive woman. When they arrived, they found Sturdivant lying under a blanket in the living room of a residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators immediately deemed the scene suspicious. Sturdivant’s body showed a swollen eye, bruises across her arms and legs, and burn marks.

Surveillance footage and witness accounts would piece together a disturbing timeline.

“She Normally Wakes Up”

A witness told detectives that Good had arrived at the residence that night, shouting for help getting Sturdivant inside. She was lying naked on a walkway outside, and Good told the witness he had rubbed ice and water on her body trying to revive her.

“She normally wakes up; it doesn’t happen like this,” Good allegedly repeated.

The witness called 911. Good drove away.

Surveillance footage showed Good dragging Sturdivant into the home at around 1:48 a.m. and leaving just 16 minutes later.

A Trail of Evidence

Investigators traced Good and Sturdivant back to an apartment on Wabash Street, approximately four miles away. Inside, they found blood throughout the unit, bloodstained clothing, and Sturdivant’s purse discarded in a trash bin.

Additional surveillance footage showed Good disposing of the items and dragging Sturdivant’s body out of the building at 1:21 a.m. — roughly 27 minutes before he appeared at the Watson Boulevard home.

In February, the medical examiner ruled Sturdivant’s death a homicide caused by blunt force injuries and extensive burns.

Tracked Down, Then Killed Behind Bars

By the time a homicide charge was filed, Good had fled. Investigators eventually tracked him to Atlanta, Georgia, where he was arrested in April and extradited back to Pittsburgh. He was denied bail and was scheduled for a preliminary hearing the following week.

He never made it.

On Wednesday afternoon, county police announced that “multiple incarcerated individuals entered the male victim’s cell and assaulted him.” Good was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

Allegheny County Jail officials confirmed an internal review is underway. The investigation remains ongoing.
