'I'm Going to Pop His Ass': Waco High Student Allegedly Flashed a Hidden Pistol at a Classmate — 200 Feet From School

A 17-year-old faces two felony charges after police say he lifted his shirt in a student parking lot to reveal a firearm tucked in his waistband.

AWaco High School student remained behind bars Thursday after school district police say he threatened a fellow student in a campus parking lot — lifting his shirt to expose a concealed pistol and declaring he was “going to pop his ass.”

Alan Manuel De La Rosa-Valtierra, 17, was arrested Wednesday and is being held on bonds totaling $50,000. He faces two charges: aggravated assault and carrying a weapon in a prohibited location.

“Going to pop his ass” — the words police say De La Rosa-Valtierra spoke while revealing a firearm tucked into his waistband.

According to an arrest affidavit, the confrontation took place in a student parking lot in the 1700 block of North 42nd Street — a lot clearly marked with signs identifying it as Waco High School property. Police say De La Rosa-Valtierra made the threat while simultaneously pulling up his shirt to show the handle of a pistol hidden in his waistband.

The victim described the weapon in detail and provided investigators with a photograph reportedly showing De La Rosa-Valtierra with his hand on the gun while it was still tucked in his pants.

Under Texas law, carrying a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school is illegal. Investigators say the incident occurred approximately 200 feet from school property — well within that boundary.

Waco ISD issued a statement saying the incident took place off campus and was “quickly mitigated” thanks to prompt reporting and an immediate response from district police. Officials stressed that no direct threat was made to the broader campus or general student body, and that the school building itself was never in danger.

As of Thursday morning, De La Rosa-Valtierra remained in custody. No further suspects have been identified in connection with the incident.
