YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a Labrador retriever named Moose after the dog was struck in the mouth with a BB gun in a rural part of southern Pennsylvania. The incident has left a local family grieving and prompted state police to seek information from the public.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were contacted on January 6 after the dog’s owner discovered that Moose had been shot and killed. The shooting reportedly occurred between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. along Atkins Road in Lower Chanceford Township, a largely rural community in York County.
Investigators said the Labrador was shot in the mouth with what is believed to be a BB gun. It remains unclear whether the dog was on its owner’s property at the time of the shooting or if it had wandered elsewhere. Troopers searched the surrounding area but did not recover any immediate evidence or identify a suspect.
