Bay Shore, New York — A shocking case out of Bay Shore, New York, has ended with a life sentence after a parking dispute escalated into a brutal and deadly crime. Authorities say a 23-year-old woman orchestrated the kidnapping and murder of a man simply because he refused to move his car from in front of her home.
The incident dates back to the night of September 17, 2022, when 29-year-old Linver Ortiz Ponce parked his red Chevrolet Camaro on a public street outside a residence on Fifth Avenue. According to prosecutors, the homeowner, Kayla Alvarenga, confronted him shortly before midnight and demanded that he move the vehicle. When he refused, the situation quickly spiraled into violence.
Investigators revealed that Alvarenga contacted several individuals, including 28-year-old Christopher Perdomo and a group of teenagers, instructing them to come to her home and confront the victim. The group arrived in a stolen BMW, which had reportedly been taken earlier that same day during a separate carjacking incident.
What followed was a coordinated and violent attack. Authorities say the group dragged Ortiz Ponce from his car while he was asleep, assaulted him, and took control of his vehicle. The victim managed to escape briefly and ran toward a nearby gas station, attempting to hide between parked cars.
However, prosecutors said the suspects continued pursuing him. At that point, Alvarenga allegedly issued direct instructions to locate, abduct, and kill the victim. Surveillance footage later showed Ortiz Ponce being forcibly taken at gunpoint and placed into the stolen BMW.
The suspects then drove to a nearby church parking lot, where the violence escalated further. Officials said the victim was beaten again before being fatally shot multiple times as he attempted to crawl away. The group fled the scene afterward, leaving behind a trail of evidence that investigators would later piece together.
The victim’s vehicle was eventually recovered in a wooded area in Smithtown, miles away from where the initial confrontation began.
Over the course of the investigation, multiple suspects were arrested and prosecuted. Christopher Perdomo was taken into custody in 2024 and later pleaded guilty to several charges, receiving a sentence of 20 years to life in prison. The other individuals involved, who were minors at the time, also pleaded guilty and were sentenced under the law.
In late 2025, Kayla Alvarenga was convicted by a jury on charges including first-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery, and conspiracy. This week, she was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney described the case as deeply disturbing, emphasizing that a simple disagreement over parking led to a calculated and violent act. Prosecutors highlighted how the crime involved planning, coordination, and the use of others to carry out the attack.
Law enforcement officials say the case serves as a reminder of how quickly minor disputes can escalate when fueled by anger and poor decisions. What began as a routine parking disagreement ended in irreversible loss, leaving a family without their loved one and multiple lives permanently altered.
The case is now closed, but its impact continues to resonate across the community, underscoring the consequences of extreme actions over everyday conflicts.
