Man Sentenced to 96 Years After Firing Nearly 60 Shots Into Bar, Injuring Bartender

Greeley, Colorado — A violent outburst at a local bar in Greeley has led to a decades-long prison sentence after a man opened fire following an earlier altercation. The incident, which left a bartender seriously injured and others traumatized, unfolded late in 2024 and has now reached a conclusion in court.

According to officials, the shooting happened on November 30, 2024, at Wyler’s Pub and Brew, a neighborhood bar located about 60 miles northeast of Denver. Police were called to the scene after reports of gunfire and found a bartender suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including a critical injury to the neck. Another woman inside the bar was also hurt while being in the direct line of fire, though she was not struck by bullets.

Investigators later determined that 33-year-old Jimmy Cazares had been asked to leave the bar earlier that night due to a fight. Instead of leaving the situation behind, he returned roughly 40 minutes later and began firing into the building from outside. Authorities said he discharged 59 rounds in total, sending bullets through the bar where patrons and staff were still present.

The attack caused not only physical injuries but also deep emotional trauma for those involved. During the sentencing hearing, one of the victims described the terrifying moment, saying her life was permanently changed and that she believed she had briefly died during the incident.

In February, Cazares was convicted on multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and criminal mischief, along with drug-related offenses. This week, Weld County District Court Judge Annette Kundelius sentenced him to 96 years in prison.

Prosecutors emphasized the severity of the crime, noting that the outcome could have been far worse given the number of shots fired and the presence of multiple people inside the bar. They described the incident as senseless and highlighted the lasting impact on the victims, who continue to deal with physical recovery and emotional distress.

Authorities said the case serves as a stark reminder of how quickly situations can escalate and the long-term consequences of violent decisions.
